| Grettings McCallisters and All, If I may, I'd like to take this moment to congratulate and thank the Mccalister Family for voting my hometown as the host of it's 2010 muster. First...I'd like to say, that you guys are coming at a pretty good time in the city's current incarnation. Yes it's true, the City of Brotherly Love is still currently riding the wave of a decade-long renaissance. It's the reason some of you may have heard so much about this ol' burg the past few years. What's been happening is very simple: America and to a slightly lesser extent, the World, has rediscovered Philadelphia. For more than 10-years now an influx of domestic and foreign-born residents as well as a swelling tourism trade have made one of the countries oldest citiesnoticebly enrgetic again. This tends to be reflected the most in "Center City" what's known locally as downtown. From what I understand, it's one of Americas premeire downtowns. The dense concentration of large and small businesses, services, restarants, entertainment and cultural amenities might give CC a fast-paced "Manhattan" type of feeling during the day.So be ready!embed>One thing that I can't stress enough: walking. Please...be ready to do more walking than some of you may ever have done once you're in the city. As a matter of fact, I recommend it. Rememeber, Philly is over 328 years old. That means that it was a city designed and built for people, since it's founding pre-dates the automobile. This will be highly reflected in the physical city's "grid" layout.One of the assets that makes the Philadelphia metro-area unique to America is SEPTA, (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority) the regional public transit authority. As the 5th largest public agency in the country, SEPTA offers a pretty good alternative to walking and driving.I have to admit, the place really does seem to offer something for just about everyone these days. And what makes it so great is that I'm sure your local family ties will be more than eager to the show out-of-towners the nooks and crannies of the city, you know, outside of downtown.And belive me...that's where things REALLY get interesting.McCAllister Family, I'm sure my city will treat you all well and WELCOME TO PHILADELPHIA!!!! | |||

I am the Daughter of Lillian Frances McAllister who's father name was Alex Donnie McAllister from Fayetteville, NC (my grandfather). My grand father had two brother's that I know of: Herny and James McAllister from Autryville, NC. All of them are deceased. Their father's name was Martin McAllister. This family is a large family too, I can't name all. The McAllisters are connected to the Gilmore, Murphy, Elliott, Williams, Fuller, Holmes, Underwood, Epps family and more! | Greetings, I am from the Northern McAllisters, I guess. My great grandfather, Corwin McAllister lived in northern Vermont, near Richford. My grandfather moved to Weathersfield Bow in the 1940's I believe. My father is Glenford Aldis McAllister. He is the youngest of 11 children, most of whom have passed away. I am one of 7 in my family. I was wondering if there was a tie somewhere in the line. I know that my great grandfather had a brother named William but am unsure if that side of the family ever left New England. At any rate, it is great what you people are doing.
